Japanese Gardens 2010

Spring is finally here and the Portland Japanese Gardens are in full bloom. We went on a Sunday, but definitely recommend going during the week when fewer people are there. It's just not as relaxing with so many people around. But at least it's still absolutely gorgeous.

Here are some photos I took with my new Nikon D300s and 50mm f/1.8.

New Kitten!

We got a new kitten today! He's about 2 months old with lots of spunk and personality. He's quite the lap cat and loves to be pet--in fact, Julia has caused him to fall asleep many times today already!

The question is, what should his name be? We're not 100% sure yet but we have a list of candidates. What do you think? Is he:

 1) Apricot
2) Icky Thump
3) Biscuit
4) Sir Didymus (Google it)
5) Reptar

Also, we're open to suggestion but will likely shoot down your stupid ideas.

Testing my new Pentax SMC-M 28mm f/2.8 on a K110D

This lens is pretty sweet. Will hopefully get some more pics outside. And some portraits (not just of cats).

Galleria

I would like to take the time to thank DevKick for their excellent gallery software, Galleria. It has exactly the features I was looking for in a gallery with its simple setup and interface. It's a jQuery-based solution so to set it up you'll need familiarity with HTML and Javascript, or at least be able to fake it well. I shamelessly copied a significant portion of their advanced demo gallery.

The solution is used for the photographic gallery at my main photography website. Fortunately, when I add more galleries it will be mostly trivial since the code won't have to be touched; I will simply update the HTML to reflect the images in the gallery.

DevKick did a fantastic job in creating what is probably the best Javascript gallery solution available. Add to that the fact that they release it for free, and it is that much sweeter. Thanks guys.

Hi There

Hi there. My name is Jared Kuolt and I am a photographer. This will be my photography-related blog for my main website at www.jkp.me.

Here is a picture of me, taken with a Holga:

A Holga is a toy camera that is so bad it's awesome. You can get some really neat effects with one, as many people can attest to. If you want one, I recommend a HolgaMod. For film, I suggest Kodak VC400 (or is it 400VC?) for really wicked, vivid colors.

Anyway, my main profession is programming and I have a tech blog at superjared.com. There I talk about programming with Ruby and Python. It's awesome.

But here, at the KuoltPhoto Blog, it's 100% photography, 100% of the time. Well, maybe not 100%. That's okay, though, because it'll be fun. I promise.

I leave you with another Holga shot of my wife, and one of our cats, Gwen.
